I know the debate exists, but I live by the “make your own choices because you are an adult and you can” outlook. I have rescued and adopted cats and dogs ever since I fled the coop and started adulting. I love volunteering at animal shelters and I continue to foster cats to this day alongside breeding. Who said you had to be die hard with one or the other?
So why start breeding when I love rescues so much? Honestly, when I brought home my first Maine Coon in early 2024, it was like a lightbulb went off. They are giant teddy bears and I couldn’t get enough. One Maine Coon turned into two, which turned into me starting my business in September of 2024. I want to share the joy that these Maine Coons have brought to my family with others. When you buy a pure bred cat, you tend to be more aware of what to look for health-wise. Maine Coons are more likely to develop hip dysplasia or hypertropic cardiomyopathy, so that is what I test for before I breed my cats. I run a Wisdom Panel DNA test, as well, to make sure there aren’t any genetic markers that shouldn’t be bred.
Rest assured, my beloved rescue kitty, Mac, and my pet Maine Coons, Bandit and Freddy, are all equally loved and bothered (lovingly) by the entire family.
I’m just here to say, forget what the naysayers say and choose what you want (because you can and you should) lol!
